Vinalba Seleccion Torrontes 2012, Argentina
I’ve a bit of a soft spot for Torrontes, one of the world’s most aromatic grape varieties. Like Gewurztraminer or Muscat, that exotic and powerful perfume can sometimes divide opinion, but then the degree of floral exuberance varies from wine to wine and some – like this week’s example – have just a little touch, but are much more about fruit and concentration. There’s a tiny touch of lychee on the nose, but much more ripe pear and nectarine. Then on the palate, a huge burst of tangerine and mandarin orange acidity slices through quite full orchard fruits, leaving this dry, mouth-watering and quite savoury. One for lovers of Sauvignon Blanc and fuller flavoured but crisp whites to try. Watch the video for more information and food matching ideas. On offer at 7.99 (down from 9.99) at Majestic until September 2013.
