Domaine de Pignan, Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2009, France
Just a few weeks ago I wrote about Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and how it’s power as a wine ‘brand’ was so great amongst consumers looking for a special red wine. Though not all Chateauneuf-du-Pape lives up to its top billing, here’s one that really delivers. It’s a stunning, mature Chateauneuf that reminds me of a great mature Burgundy or old Rioja or Barolo, with mellow, truffle and chocolate aromas and a beautiful palate of fruit, spice and tobacco-tinged maturity.
