26/08/01 – Terrazze Della Luna (Italy) Pinot Grigio 2000

Terrazze Della Luna (Italy) Pinot Grigio 2000
A few weeks ago I recommended a posh Italian Pinot Grigio at 10 that was a perfect example of a whole new breed of northern Italian whites. These are wines that are choc full of body, fruit and flavour – far removed from the thin, cheap stuff that some people have learned to avoid from this region. Here’s a much cheaper, but yet still gorgeous example from Trentino, right on the Austrian border. This has a peachy, nutty, aromatic nose that fairly explodes in the mouth with sweet-edged nectarine and ripe pear fruit. The silky texture adds to a rich impression, with a lovely buttery character, then good acidity makes for a powerful, balanced finish. Really delightful stuff that sips well on its own, but was delightful with mild Thai food. Incidentally, this is a wine to prize for its youthful vigour, so choose the 2000 over the 1999 if you find both on the shelves. Wine Rack 5.99
