Cono Sur (Chile) Vision Pinot Noir ‘Old Vine Block 78’ 2007
The grapes for this wine are hand-picked, hand-sorted and crushed by foot, from a single vineyard that is claimed to be the oldest Pinot planting in Chile. It spends four months in French oak barrels, about 80% of which are new. With a terrifically aromatic nose, this is brambly and rich, yet has a really bright fruit focus that has nuances of pomegranate and redcurrant, but all very ripe and inviting. The palate too has that almost lifted, peachy brightness of fruit, though a smoky, chocolaty background adds support. Fabulous stuff for the sheer verve and joy of the fruit quality. 7.49, Majestic, though the price drops to just 5.99 in Majestic’s current 20% off Chile promotion (until July 28th).
