Cuvee des Amandiers (France) Blanc 2002
A new line in Majestic’s range, this southern French blend from the Vin de Pays d’Oc is the epitome of cracking value, summery, clean white wine. I have no idea of the grapes in the blend, but there might be some Viognier or Sauvignon Blanc, or lesser known local varieties like Rolle or Grenache Blanc. Whatever the cepage , this is a lovely, easy drinking wine. The nose is aromatic and gently floral, with a real purity of pear and downy peach-skin fruit. On the palate it has a sweet fruit attack, with plenty of ripe pear and ogen melon, but also a fine citrus acid backbone that keeps the picture crisp. It is quite full-bodied and has plenty of texture in the mouth, but stays focused and fruity into a long finish. A lovely drop of inexpensive summer white. £3.19 Majestic
