Chateau Trillol, Corbieres 2008, France
The Sichel family are renowned wine producers and shippers from Bordeaux, co-owners of Chateau Palmer and owners of Chateau d’Angludet in Margaux. They have owned this estate in the Languedoc since 1990, this red wine being a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, aged in older oak barrels. It has real cedar, spice and pepper on the nose, a Sandalwood-like, exotic lift developing, and bold red berry fruit. On the palate it is immediately savoury, those spice and cedary characters giving real structure and adding a keen edge to the otherwise quite jammy boldness of blackcurrant and red berry fruits. Nicely balanced and very natural, unforced stuff with classical structure. Watch the video for more details and food-matching suggestions. 9.99, ; The Wine Society.
