Dominio del Plata, Crios Torrontes 2012, Argentina
A wine that is a favourite of mine year in, year out, that comes from Mendoza in Argentina and is made by ace winemaker Susana Balbo. Some of the floral exuberance that this variety can exhibit is reined back here, and that is not a bad thing, allowing the intense lychee and tropical fruits to come through, just a wisp of something like freesia in the background and a bit of lemon rind too. In the mouth it is dry and pretty full bodied, a lovely white fruit – ripe melon, pear and apple – filling the mouth, a hint of spice and a fresh, biting finish to give this broad food-matching appeal.
