Blason de Bourgogne (France) Pinot Noir 2005
Blason de Bourgogne is a label of the Co-op at Buxy, and this Pinot Noir comes from the very good quality 2005 vintage. The colour is a bright, vivid crimson, and the nose offers a charming, nicely expressive Pinot profile of cranberry and redcurrant, a touch of minerality, and a suggestion of gentle earthiness. On the palate this is dry and savoury, with those flavours of small, red berry fruits persisting and a slightly plummier depth on the mid-palate. Spice and a little tobacco note kicks in, and the tight, quite elegant tannins and very fresh acidity cleanse the palate and leave this quite crisp and moreish. A small Burgundy, but a very intelligently made and pure example of Pinot from this region. At 6.99 in Somerfield this would still be on my recommended list, but the good news is there is 1.50 off until June 5th, making it a bargain 5.49.
