21/08/2011 – Torrebreva, Manzanilla Sherry

Torrebreva, Manzanilla Sherry, Spain
Sherry might not seem like an obvious summer drink, but crisp, fresh styles like Fino and Manzanilla really are: with just 15% alcohol these pale, bone-dry styles are deliciously fresh and zippy, and are Sherries to open and drink – not stick in the back of the cupboard. This (from a bodega owned by the Spanish royal family) is just terrific: it has a typically tangy, salt and ozone nose with ravishing freshness, some apple, citrus and dry, nut husk character. On the palate the texture is quite oily rich, but this has such precision of citrus and minerals that streaks across the palate with great intensity and length, that nutty richness just adding some breadth. Arresting and delicious stuff and what a handy half-bottle size too. More information and food match suggestions in the video. 6.95
