29/04/01 – Le Vieux Mas (France) Marsanne/Viognier 1998

Le Vieux Mas (France) Marsanne/Viognier 1998/99
A Vin de Pays from the Languedoc, this blends the rich, spicy Marsanne and peachy Viognier usually found in the Northern Rhone to delicious effect. The nose is buttery and full, with little floral notes and lightly herbal nuances over weighty, peach and apricot fruit. On the palate it is full and powerful, with a chewy texture and plenty of fruit. It is a wine with a warm, expansive character and just enough acidity to counteract the richness of fruit. 1998 was a great year, but the 1999 shows really well too, and is just a little fresher in style.
