29/09/2013 – Guerrieri Rizzardi Bardolino 2012

Guerrieri Rizzardi, Bardolino 2012, Italy
Think of wine from the Veneto in northeast Italy and chances are Prosecco, crisp whites, Valpolicella and Amarone will spring to mind. But other red wines are made in the region too, and this is a fine example of a Bardolino, made from the local Corvina and Rondinella, with a little Merlot too. It is archetypal Bardolino, unoaked and light in alcohol (12.5%) and style, much more expressive of dry red fruits like cranberry and reducrrant than riper black fruits, and touched with delicate spices and earthiness. Light in colour and palate-weight too, it retains plenty of acidity and a lean, fresh focus, the delicate fruit and mineral balance might be underpowering for some, but it has a precision and finesse. Not cheap and not for everyone, but lovely of its style. Watch the video for more information and specific wine and food ideas. Around 10.99 from Selfridges, Harrods, and see all stockists on .
