30/06/2013 – Santa Digna Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2012

Torres, Santa Digna Cabernet Sauvignon Rose 2012, Chile
The trend for the past few years has been all about pale, pale pink wines – the paler the better. Herb-scented wines from Provence and a whole host of lookalikes from around the world have been all the rage, so I rather enjoyed coming back to the much fuller, much more red wine-like style of this wine. From the Torres company’s Chilean outpost, it has plenty of coulour and plenty of fruit. On the nose there is a blast of cassis, a hint of strawberry, but bold and rich and creamy. On the palate there’s a touch of residual sugar giving this easy-drinking appeal, but the full-fruited flavour packs out the mid palate and there is a lovely dry acid and tannin finish to add to the food-matching appeal.
