Caves Saint-Pierre, Gigondas 2007, France
Actually, there are a pair of Wines of the Week this week: both from Caves Saint-Pierre, one a straightforward, juicy and fruity Cotes-du-Rhone from 2008 that’s in Tesco, Somerfield and Sainsbury’s for around 6.00, and this superior Gigondas from the great Rhone vintage of 2007, that’s over twice the price. Both would be good partners for new season lamb, but the Gigondas offers a much deeper, more intense wine experience with its meaty and peppery edges to beautifully focused red fruits making it the more satisfying wine of the two, budget permitting. 12.99, Tesco.
