05/01/2014 – Cournon Lafleur, Malbec 2012

Cournon Lafleur, Malbec 2012, France
The great grape of Cahors in the Southwest of France, Malbec, is now finding even more fame in Argentina, but this PGI Pays d’Oc wine comes from Limoux in the Languedoc, not an area normally associated with this variety. Made in a juicy, forward and crowd-pleasing style with just a little oak influence (from oak staves, not barrels) it is rounded rich and spicy on the nose, with bold red and black fruits that flow through to the palate. Not the most complex or profound Malbec on the shelves, but an approachable and versatile quality red wine and a good buy whilst on offer.
