Fillaboa, Rias Baixas 2010, Spain
Rias Baixas in the cool, damp, northwestern corner of Spain is famed for its extremely fresh, fish and seafood-friendly white wines made from the Albarino grape. This is a 2010, at a time when many producers have their 2011 wines on the shelf, and that extra year of bottle aging has added a little honeyed development to this wine. It still has that classic lemony crispness on the nose, a sea-breeze freshness, but layers of almond, honey and a nuance of toffee add rounding depth. The palate too has clarity and citrus cut, but the limpid, clean but broader depth with the edges smoothed off of the acidity are delightful.
