Wine of the Week – 5/5/2013
Three or four years ago this wine almost single-handedly created a new cult category for ‘En Rama’ sherries: sherries that are bottle with little or no filtration or stabilisation, meaning the drinker can experience the freshest of sherries, almost as if they were standing in Jerez and dipping their glass straight into the barrel. This latest release is another captivating wine, with 15% alcohol not much stronger than many white wines. It is nutty, super-fresh and bready on the nose, with a blast of apple and of ozone: like breathing in a lungful of seaside air. On the palate it is bone-dry, and what it lacks in easy-drinking fruitiness it more than makes up in that saline, nutty, mouth-watering freshness. Unique stuff that is recommended to be drunk cold and very young.
