Codorníu, Sparkling Pinot Noir Rosé Brut
There’s a week to go until St Valentine’s day, so cliche though it may be, my choice is a sparkling pink fizz, and it doesn’t come much more romantic than that. In fact I tried several rose Cavas at around the 6.00 mark, and though they were OK, this 100% Pinot Noir bottling from Codorniu was a serious step up, fo just a few pounds more. It has a delightful strawberry and raspberry pulp nose, overflowing with soft, elegant red fruit aromas and a just a touch of Pinot earthiness. On the palate there’s a hint of sweetness that sits beautifully with the ripe, summer-pudding fruit, and the fresh acidity and crisp mousse make for a delightful mouthful of wine to have either as an aperitif, or matched to smoked salmon blinis – or even some strawberries sprinkled with cracked black pepper and balsamic vinegar for dessert. £9.99 in Oddbins
