Marks & Spencer’s Pecorino 2010, Italy
Pecorino is indeed a delicious sheep’s milk cheese from Italy, but it’s a grape too, in this case grown in the Marches region of central Italy. This wine is not at all flashy – it doesn’t leap out of the glass and grab you – but it has a deliciously mineral, concentrated nose like walking through a lemon grove, with little salty and nutty nuances. On the palate there’s a fine core of apple and citrus fruit, those nutty tones again and a great sense of mid-palate concentration. The finish is long and has that mineral acidity, making a taut, food-friendly and relatively subtle wine of great precision.
