La Bascula, Catalan Eagle White Wine 2013, Spain
A United Nations sponsored wine? Well, not really, but its made in northern Spain by business partners English MW Ed Adams and South Africa winemaker Bruce Jack, and uses a mix of Spanish and French grape varieties, so it’s a pretty good candidate. It is made mostly from old vines white Grenache, with Viognier and some Roussanne in the blend. Its a delightful wine, brimming with succulent orchard and stone-fruit aromas, rich in texture and filling the mouth with fleshy, sweet peach fruit but always retaining real bite through its cooling acidity.
