Ravenswood, Vintners Blend Zinfandel 2007, California
Majestic has just secured a parcel of wines which are arriving in stores this week, but which are bound to sell out quickly. All are being offered at around half price. My choice for Wine of the Week is the well-known Vintners Blend Zinfandel from Ravenswood, currently on sale in a well-known supermaket at 9.49, but offered here at just 4.99. It has a very juicy, black fruit and cherry nose with some pepper and spice, a background of soft oak and a bit of earthy substance. On the palate plenty of sweet, focused black fruit, but enough softening vanilla and a bit of freshening acidity and spice to make it food friendly.
