(2019) From organic vineyards in Campo de Borja, an appellation in the north of Spain, this is pure and joyful Grenache, undoubtedly the star grape of the region. Brimming with perfume, ripe cherries and incense smoke join with floral notes for a heady opening salvo. In the mouth its a seductive wine, full-bodied creamy and silky in texture, sheer tannins and softly insistent acidity offset the weight of plum and blackberry fruit in a terrifically gluggable wine with real personality. A barbecue stunner for the summer, very lightly chilled.
(2015) Alc 14%. This is 100% Garnacha from vineyards at 550-650 metres. Fruity, well-tempered, it shows a hint of sweetness and ripeness and is filled to the brim with crowd pleasing fruit, but a core of good, lightening fresh acidity too.
(2013) 13.5%, Screwcap. The cheapest rosé in this year's line-up comes from Bodegas Borsao in Campo de Borja and is 100% Garnacha. The nose seems ripe, sweet and creamy with strawberry sundae aromas and a palate showing a nicely dry, watermelon freshness as well as a fair amount of creamy berries. Stylish and cheap, and dry in the finish.
(2011) From Campo de Borja in northeast Spain, and made by Scottish winemaker Norrel Robertson. This has a medium and very pretty pomegranate colour, and a small proportion of barrel fermentation adds a touch of creaminess and softness to the strawberry fruit. The palate has a rounding weight of fruit, with a nicely tart raspberry edge and quite a full, textured and mouth-filling finish.
