(2021) From 50-year-old vineyards in Carineña, it was aged for 12 months, 65% in concrete vats, 35% in 500L French oak barrels. Crunchy, bright, lifted fruit showing raspberry and cherry, some floral nuances too. A stripe of liquorice adds a bit of seriousness. In the mouth this has texture and fruit concentration, but great tang and vibrancy too, the acid pert and juicy, tannins firm and smooth and the finish is on fruit and spices. Available mid-April.
(2020) From the Cariñena region in the north of Spain, this is a blend of Tempranillo with Grenache and Syrah. Vibrant and primary in colour, it is vinous and black cherry-scented, with a little bit of balsamic character, leading onto a firm but juicy palate, unoaked so sweet and sour, tight black fruit comes through. A touch lean in the finish but an honest £5.49s worth. Part of the Lidl Wine Tour May 2020, while stocks last.
(2011) 60% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in oak barrels for 2 years (70% French and 30% American). Very classical nose, beautifully pitched with some cedar and pencil-shaving finesse, tobacco and warm, spicy autumnal fruit. The palate has more of the same, but we love the elegant brightness of the finish. A real bargain.
