Senorio de los Llanos (Spain) Valdepenas Gran Reserva 1990
This wine is very reminiscent of old-fashioned Rioja Gran Reserva. Coming from Valdepenas, a less fashionable region in the the Southeast of the country, it is around half the price. It has a wonderfully sumptuous nose of vanilla, with hints of spice and berry fruit. On the palate it is dry and velvety-soft, but there is some decent strawberry and darker, elderberry fruit. It is a simple but delicious wine. Majestic, 4.99.
