October Purchases

As I keep falling into the old mistake of buying wines to age and not having enough to actually drink when I fancy it, a small selection of affordable wines; mostly Burgundy. Autumn has officially arrived to Barcelona.

2x Charvin Cotes du Rhone 2019
2x Joseph Voillot Bourgogne Rouge 2016
2x Domaine Montille Bourgogne Rouge 2017
2x Domaine Fornerol Cotes du Nuits Villages 2017
2x Domaine Matrots Maranges VV 2017

Thanks for this - have been a fan of his TNs on CT ever since this one I posted re Comtes 2008, but didn't realise he had a blog.

Not sure what price has to do with quality?

Last year’s offer I asked for a mixed case across producers. The one that stuck out for me was Vincent, so I just ordered a mixed case of their 4 wines in the current offer. Suggest you get a mix of entry level wines and see which you like
Hi, update on Oregon wines. Having discussed with Simon (A&B not the Simon above) placed a small taster case - see below.
2019 Bednarik Pinot Noir; Hundred Suns Wine
2018 Eola-Amity Hills Zenith Vineyard Pinot Noir ; Vincent Wine Company
2019 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir; Arterberry Maresh
2018 Vespidae Pinot Noir; JK Carriere Wines
2018 Whistling Ridge Pinot Noir; Goodfellow Family Cellars
2019 Pinot Noir Select, Ribbon Ridge; Brick House

Thanks again for advice, especially Bryan.

Picked up some 2020 Kumeu single vineyards from TWS. Prices not the bargain they once were but still good value I think. Sounds like 2020 a good year for them too

I had John of AB offer recommendations plus a few of my own, thanks to a search on the forum.

2019 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir; Arterberry Maresh
2019 Hyland Vineyard Pinot Noir; Trathen Hall Wines
2018 Eola-Amity Hills Zenith Vineyard Pinot Noir ; Vincent Wine Company
2018 Whistling Ridge Pinot Noir; Goodfellow Family Cellars
2019 Estate Old Vine Pinot Noir; Patricia Green Cellars
2019 Temperance Hill Chardonnay; Goodfellow Family Cellars
2019 Willamette Valley Chardonnay ; Crowley Wines
2019 Dundee Hills Chardonnay; Arterberry Maresh

I have little knowledge of these really but every Oregon wine I’ve drunk has been of great interest at least, so very hopeful.

Having been pretty good, the lure of taking a car to France proved hard to ignore, so I've picked up 3 cases of Dirler Cadé - mostly riesling, and a couple of cases of wine from the local Ardeche Coop (a mixture of Viogniers, Chardonnay, Chatus and some Vin d'Octobre). Also 4 bottles of cheapish Champagne. Just think of how much I saved!

I know the feeling, having returned from Austria in September with some Gobelsburg, Prager and Hirsch, a regular pension savings spree!

Anyhow;

3 btl Poggione Brunello 2016 (before they disappear from Norway, panic set in)
3 btl Moet Grand Vintage 2013 (thanks to a certain Mr Pritchard)

I finally weakened when I saw an offer for 12 gold medal winners from the 2021 English wine awards from Hawkins Bros.

Yeah, I know ... medal winners.
Yeah, I know ... English wines

But I think I've only had one of these previously (the Furleigh), so a nice easy way to try a dozen different English wineries, with the hope that a gold medal might mean that at least they're not total crap - always assuming that they weren't the only one entered in the category of course ...

Sparkling
Coolhurst Lady Elizabeth Rosé 2016
Dunesforde Blanc de Noirs 2018
D'Urberville Classic Cuvée 2016
Furleigh Estate Blanc de Noirs 2015
Hunter Classic Cuvée 2018
Swanaford Classic Cuvée 2018

Still
Folc Rosé 2020
Giffords Hall St Ed's Pinot Noir 2020
Hidden Spring Chardonnay 2019
Oastbrook Chardonnay 2020
Tuffon Hall Bacchus 2020
Whitehall Pinot Noir 2019

Out of the sparkling wines above I bought the Dunnesforde and Hunters.
Did you buy them all from the producer’s website direct? I want to try D’Urberville but the cost of delivery for single bottles is prohibitive.

Similar here, inspired by the Pale Pinot thread I bought a couple mbottles of Jurgen Hoffman Spatburgunder 2019.

Anything that elicits an “Oooh, what’s that!” at the table deserves a rebuy.

And boy is it pale.

I'll join in!

3 x Black Chalk Classic 2018 II
2 x Black Chalk Wild Rose 2018
1 x Exton Park Brut Reserve RB32
1 x Exton Park Blanc de Blancs RB45
1 x Exton Park Blanc de Noirs RB28
1 x Domaine du Colombier Hermitage 2015

The last is very decently priced by the Wine Soc for quality Hermitage from a great vintage.

Anon!

Thanks to the thread on Droin Chablis I’ve bought a selection of the 2020s today.

Also took advantage of a Vivino discount code that I received to get a good price on some Dauvissat Séchet and some Tribut Beauroy.

So basically loading up on Chablis!

One other was some Gannevat Les Survivants - this was the wine he made after frosts destroyed most of his crop in 2017. This is a Chardonnay from across his sites of the surviving grapes.

Good week!

Sure! I plan for a set to be compared alongside champagne of similar price point (inspiration from the Exton Park thread again) and another set over the Christmas period. Do let me know how the RB45 went.
Eugene,

I had the RB 32 Brut. Whilst it is undoubtedly good, I feel it leans too heavily on older reserve wines, lacks some freshness and a hint of interest. It is less complex than the the Blanc de Noir. It is really properly good; casual Grand Marque Champagne drinkers should lap it up and ask for more, I just found the BdeN to be more English/Hampshire Sparkling Wine, more complex and with greater interest. That being said, at a lower regular retail price of less than, say, Pol Roger white foil, I’d be jumping at the Exton ready to pull the cork out with my teeth!

I hope you enjoy your bottle.

Anon,
Davy.

Mixed case of 2019 Pataille Aligotés from TWS.
2x Basic Aligote
1 each of 4 single vineyards.

Like the mix, interested to try the different sites, haven't tried all of them before as they're pretty hard to track down.
